Deconstruction and Graphic Design

Deconstruction and Graphic Design

The reading was not entirely clear to me when I read it, but I got a few important aspects that I believe are important with deconstruction. Deconstructivism came about from the result of post-constructivism around the 1980’s. The most basic idea that I can understand is that deconstructivism produces a finished product that can be both chaotic yet organized, distorted yet clean, and overlapping yet clear. It manipulates the basic structure while still upholding style.

In the reading we notice there are examples placed with text. We see that one example shows justified text on a page that butts up to the margins all throughout. The rectangular shape is filled with text leaving a clean fit border around the page. The next example we are shown, is another page filled with text but this time has a square border or emptiness in the center that is also filled with text. Deconstrucivism has not only been used with art and architecture, but can be used also with text and typography.

We can focus on the idea that deconstructivist art/architecture is out of the ordinary. It places an emphasis on the ability to create something different while still upholding certain standards.

The image I have attached is an image of Deconstructivist Architecture. We can see by looking at the image that this building was purposely distorted and purposely created this way. The idea of allowing the creation of something different but still knowing what it is.
